In a Reversal, Kings Will Reduce Staff

Share

The Kings joined the growing number of NHL teams by cutting staff, adding to speculation that the NHL lockout will wipe out the 2004-05 season.

The team would lose an unspecified number of employees, part of a move by AEG -- the Kings’ parent company -- to cut 30 to 40 jobs.

King officials said three weeks ago that the team would not reduce staff at that time.

During an online chat with fans Wednesday, Commissioner Gary Bettman said he was “unable to predict how long the situation will continue,” and said the league had not explored the idea of using replacement players.

Meanwhile, no new talks are scheduled between the league and players’ union.
