THE RACE FOR NO. 1

Share

The BCS will get another chance to get it right this week, as the Associated Press’ top 10 teams all won Saturday.

No. 1 USC solidified its top-ranked status with a 38-0 rout of Washington. It was the first time the Huskies have been shut out since 1981.

No. 2 Oklahoma, third in last week’s BCS standings, was an easy winner, 41-10, over Kansas. Meanwhile, No. 3 Auburn routed Kentucky, 42-10, and No. 4 Miami, second in the BCS, beat North Carolina State, 45-31, in a game that wasn’t as close as the score indicated. So the top four teams put the ball back in the BCS’ court. We’ll see what they did with it when the new standings come out Monday.

The rest of the top 10 teams won, but it has really become a four-team race, with the Trojans, Sooners, Tigers and Hurricanes all trying to stay undefeated for the rest of the season, and everyone else waiting for them to stumble.
