The San Bernardino County district attorney filed criminal charges Wednesday against Alberto Vallejos, 33, whose car crashed into the rear of a sport-utility vehicle in Upland on Saturday, killing four people.

The SUV had slowed because of a mattress on Interstate 10. When Vallejos’ car hit it, the SUV rolled over and its gas tank ruptured and ignited.

Authorities said Vallejos drove off and was arrested later at his home. Three Fontana sisters and their 11-year-old niece were killed.
