Orange County Supervisor Jim Silva has proposed a new name for Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley: President Ronald W. Reagan Regional Park.

“Earlier this summer, America lost a great leader,” Silva wrote in a memo. “We are all saddened by the passing of President Ronald Reagan, a man of strong moral character and great humility.”

Reagan died June 5 at 93 from pneumonia, complicated by Alzheimer’s disease.

Mile Square Park is where Reagan kicked off his presidential campaign in 1980, the memo said. Silva said the dedication cost would be about $24,000.

The proposal, which will be discussed at the supervisors’ meeting Tuesday, comes weeks after Simi Valley adopted the slogan “Home of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library” as the city motto.
