Winning Streak Is Still Rosey
Most of the horses in this year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic will not have run at the host track, Lone Star Park, but it shouldn’t make any difference to Roses In May.
Trainer Dale Romans’ 4-year-old colt, undefeated this year, has reeled off his five-race streak at different tracks. The latest venue Roses In May conquered was Turfway Park in Florence, Ky., where he won Saturday’s $350,000 Kentucky Cup Classic Handicap. Pie N Burger was second and Sonic West third. Ridden on Saturday by John Velazquez, Roses In May has also won at Keeneland, Churchill, Prairie Meadows and Saratoga.
Other stakes at Turfway went to Greater Good in the Juvenile, Punch Appeal in the Juvenile Fillies, Susan’s Angel in the Turfway Breeders’ Cup and Level Playing Field in the Kentucky Cup Sprint.
At Belmont Park, trainer Bob Baffert saddled two winners, Senor Swinger in the $200,000 Belmont Breeders’ Cup Handicap and Teton Forest in the $150,000 Jerome Handicap.
Ticker Tape, ridden by Kent Desormeaux and trained by Jim Cassidy, won the $200,000 Pucker Up Stakes at Arlington Park.
At Fairplex Park, Garrett Gomez rode 13-1 shot Lunar Flight to a victory in the $125,000 Barretts Debutante.
