Going against the advice of his lawyer, Barry Bonds continues to train with longtime friend Greg Anderson as Bonds rehabilitates his right knee, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Anderson is awaiting trial in the BALCO steroids case on charges of distributing performance-enhancing drugs to elite athletes.

In response to the Chronicle report, ESPN’s Pedro Gomez approached Bonds as he was watching a college baseball game between Texas and Nebraska in the Giant clubhouse at SBC Park before Saturday’s game against Colorado.

When Gomez asked Bonds to comment on the story, Bonds said, “I’m not going to answer.” Gomez then asked Bonds, “Are you working out with Greg Anderson?” Bonds said, “Report what you want.”

Bonds’ attorney, Michael Rains, said he has had several conversations with Bonds, telling the San Francisco Giant slugger to discontinue his training with Anderson.

“In the conservative world of legal advice, I have told Barry that it was probably better that he not have contact with Greg,” Rains told the paper Friday in a telephone interview.

“But I’ve had enough discussions with Barry to know what friendship means to him. He values his friendship with Greg and always has, as well as the training regimen Greg has given him.”

Bonds is on the 15-day disabled list as he recovers from two operations on his ailing knee.

Pitching coach Larry Rothschild said the team would make a decision today.

“Mark is going to throw on the side. We want to see how he feels and make the decision with the information we need to have,” Rothschild said. “The priority is that he feels good.”

Prior, on the disabled list because of right shoulder inflammation, pitched six innings for triple-A Iowa at Albuquerque on Thursday, giving up seven runs.

Juan Pierre, who sat out most of spring training because of a calf injury, was not in Florida’s starting lineup against Washington on Saturday -- marking the first time since April 30, 2003 -- a span of 299 games -- that the center fielder’s name wasn’t atop the Marlins’ batting order. He was the only major leaguer to play every inning for his team in 2004.... The Minnesota Twins put right-hander Carlos Silva, who has a torn knee ligament that could require surgery, on the 15-day disabled list.
