Did the Father Dishonor His Daughter’s Badge?

Share

Re “To My Daughter, the Good Cop,” Voices, April 9: Luis Carrillo laments that he was not invited to his daughter’s graduation from the Sheriff’s Academy. His daughter has just embarked on a noble journey of public service, yet her father feels it necessary to air his seething hatred toward her fellow officers for all to read.

Mr. Carrillo, if you are indeed as proud of your daughter as you say, then a fatherly hug, words of congratulation and maybe some flowers would have sufficed. Instead, you chose to publicly bash the very department that your daughter will be devoting her precious years to, and possibly sacrificing her life for. Do you really think you deserved to be invited?

Carrillo rails against law enforcement and wants his daughter, who recently graduated from the Sheriff’s Academy, to turn in rogue officers. And rightfully so.

Carrillo is a civil rights attorney who admittedly makes his living suing the L.A. Police Department and the Sheriff’s Department. Is it possible that many suits brought by civil rights and other attorneys are bogus? Many times, both departments settle the cases and make a payout to so-called victims to avoid costly, lengthy trials simply because it’s cheaper. It’s a nice, profitable racket for some attorneys.

Maybe Carrillo could be a “whistle-blower” for rogue attorneys? It could really be a big help because when a police or sheriff’s department is sued, the public is sued because they pay the settlements, which in turn means fewer police and sheriff’s deputies patrolling. Ironic, isn’t it?
