Theater Owner Charged With Illegal Disposal
The former owner of Riverside’s historic Fox Theater, where the first public screening of “Gone With the Wind” took place, was charged with illegally disposing of asbestos-laden floor tile.
Howard Zivnak of Pomona was arrested April 15 and charged with five felony counts of the illegal disposal of hazardous waste, according to the Riverside County district attorney’s office. Zivnak allegedly ordered his employees to remove the tile, which they did without protective gear. The tiles were tossed behind surrounding businesses and into a municipal trash bin, authorities said.
