Less renowned artists matter too

Re “Free Works Cost the Getty,” by Christopher Knight, April 27: I am an artist. I go to museums to look and learn. I don’t mind having to make up my own mind about the quality of work on display. I don’t mind being exposed to diverse works of visual accomplishment by artists such as George Rickey and Jack Zajac. I am tired of museums that show the same trophy artists.

Those curators and critics such as Christopher Knight who wish to limit my experiences usually evaluate art using the criteria of the art historian: whether it is conceptually or historically significant and not whether it is well crafted or visually stimulating. I think museums have a responsibility to show a variety of work and not just that of the anointed few.
