Sharif enters a not-guilty plea
Actor Omar Sharif pleaded innocent Tuesday to a misdemeanor battery charge for allegedly assaulting a Beverly Hills restaurant valet who refused to accept his European currency.
Sharif, 73, entered his plea through his attorney, Harlan Brown. The actor was not required to attend the brief proceeding before Beverly Hills Superior Court Judge Amy Hogue, who set a Jan. 10 pretrial hearing.
In a lawsuit filed Oct. 24 in L.A. County Superior Court, Juan Anderson alleges that Sharif hurled racial slurs at him and delivered “a blow to the face” that left him bloodied.
