Livingston Might Travel

Point guard Shaun Livingston, who said he experienced no back pain after participating in contact drills for the first time, might accompany the team on this week’s trip to Oklahoma City and San Antonio, Coach Mike Dunleavy said Saturday.

“He may go on the trip, but to play on the trip would be a leap,” Dunleavy said. “If everything goes OK, I would say he’d be back within a week. Unless he has a setback in practice, I would say he’ll be back around that time.”

The second-year point guard, sidelined all season because of a stress reaction in his lower back, has performed well since he resumed practicing, Dunleavy said. The team, however, is proceeding cautiously because Livingston was also sidelined 52 games in his rookie season because of knee and shoulder injuries.

“He looks good,” Dunleavy said. “I’m on board with him playing, but it’s not my call. As soon as they [team medical personnel] say yes, we’ll go.”

If Livingston does not return on the trip, he might make his season debut Dec. 17 against the Houston Rockets at Staples Center.

Forward Corey Maggette, who suffered a sprained left foot Monday against the Miami Heat, sat out Saturday’s game against the Phoenix Suns and is not expected to play tonight against the Detroit Pistons.

Although Maggette is listed as day-to-day, he might remain sidelined during the trip because of swelling. He has continued to receive therapy, including acupuncture.
