Suns Spoil Hornets’ Return to Louisiana

Eddie House scored 26 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter, and the Phoenix Suns rallied to spoil the New Orleans Hornets’ homecoming with a 101-88 victory Friday night in Baton Rouge, La.

House didn’t score in the third quarter but fueled the Suns’ decisive run with his three-point shooting in the final period, when Phoenix outscored New Orleans, 37-10.

The Hornets, playing their first regular-season game in Louisiana after being forced to relocate to Oklahoma City because of Hurricane Katrina, took the lead early and were up by 15 points in the third period.

The Hornets will play five more “home” games at the LSU Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

Miami 112, Philadelphia 105 -- Dwyane Wade had 32 points and Shaquille O’Neal added 21 points and 13 rebounds on the road to give Heat Coach Pat Riley his third win this week.

NBA leading scorer Allen Iverson led the 76ers with 35 points but left the game briefly in the first half with a sprained thumb. Chris Webber scored 23 for the 76ers, whose four-game winning streak ended.

Dallas 109, Orlando 103 -- Dirk Nowitzki scored 10 of his 31 points in overtime at home. Nowitzki scored Dallas’ first six points of overtime, but Orlando tied the score again before Devin Harris’ 15-footer with 1 minute 47 seconds left gave the Mavericks the lead for good at 101-99.

New Jersey 115, Denver 106 -- Vince Carter scored 34 points and Richard Jefferson added 21, including five in overtime, at home for New Jersey, which ended a three-game losing streak.

Jason Kidd added 15 points and 16 assists for the Nets and forced overtime with a three-pointer with 11 seconds left. Reserve Scott Padgett scored all of his 15 points on three-pointers after halftime.

Seattle 111, Portland 99 -- Rashard Lewis scored 37 points for the SuperSonics, who beat former coach Nate McMillan and the Trail Blazers. Portland was behind by as many as 33 points in the first half.

McMillan spent 19 seasons with the SuperSonics as a player, assistant and head coach. He was so popular he earned the nickname Mr. Sonic and his jersey hangs in the rafters of Key Arena.

Atlanta 122, New York 111 -- Joe Johnson scored a career-high 36 points and Al Harrington had 35 at home for Atlanta, which handed New York its fifth straight loss.

The Hawks shot 63%, best in the NBA this season. Atlanta entered shooting 43.6% as a team, 25th in the league.

Detroit 110, Chicago 82 -- Rasheed Wallace scored 10 of his 19 points in the third quarter at home for Detroit, which improved to 17-3, the best 20-game start in team history.

Golden State 108, Toronto 98 -- Jason Richardson scored 23 points at Toronto and the Warriors made a season-high 17 three-pointers. Golden State was 17 for 29 from three-point range, one off the franchise record of 18 reached twice last season.

Milwaukee 100, Boston 96 -- Mo Williams had 24 points and nine rebounds, and Michael Redd also scored 24 at Boston for Milwaukee, which blew a 17-point lead in the third quarter. The Celtics have not won consecutive games all season.

Indiana 93, Utah 83 -- Jermaine O’Neal had 27 points and 11 rebounds at Indianapolis for the Pacers, who won for the first time since management said it would look to honor Ron Artest’s trade request.

Austin Croshere was four for five from three-point range.
