Baylor’s Win Streak Hits 29 in 85-68 Victory

Sophia Young had 24 points and 10 rebounds and No. 5 Baylor extended the nation’s longest winning streak to 29 games with an 85-68 victory over Army on Saturday in West Point, N.Y.

Rachel Allison had 12 points, Chameka Scott had 11 and Jhasmin Player 10 for the defending national champion Lady Bears (9-0).

Baylor closed the first half with a 20-9 run to take a 42-30 lead. Young scored nine points during the run.

Cara Enright led the Black Knights (4-5) with 28 points.

No. 6 North Carolina 98, Coastal Carolina 41 -- Heather Claytor had 18 points, including six three-pointers, and undefeated North Carolina opened a 61-point lead midway through the second half.

North Carolina (10-0) won its 25th straight home game and reached season highs for points and margin in the 57-point win.

No. 10 Stanford 83, Rice 53 -- Candice Wiggins scored 19 points at home for Stanford, which held Rice to 24% shooting.

Wiggins gave the Cardinal (5-2) a scare in the first half when she crashed to the floor after colliding with a Rice player. She was helped off the court clutching her left knee, but returned to the game less than two minutes later.

No. 11 Michigan State 76, Houston 53 -- Liz Shimek scored 24 points at home for Michigan State. Shimek, the Big Ten’s leading scorer, was 11 for 14 from the field and had eight rebounds and five assists for the Spartans (7-2), who won their fifth straight game.

The Spartans trailed, 22-21, when Shimek scored three baskets and fed Victoria Lucas-Perry for a three-pointer to spark a 24-6 surge that ended the first half.

The lead grew to 26 points with 7:35 left.

No. 13 Notre Dame 77, Arkansas State 54 -- Melissa D’Amico scored a career-high 20 points on 10-for-12 shooting to help Notre Dame in a Gray Division semifinal game in the Duel in the Desert tournament in Las Vegas.

Notre Dame (7-1) will play No. 22 Utah for the Gray Division title today.

Arkansas State (5-4) will face No. 23 North Carolina State in the third-place game.

No. 16 DePaul 99, St. Francis, Pa. 61 -- Khara Smith scored 21 points on nine-for-12 shooting and Erin Cattell added 15 as DePaul (10-1) won its 29th straight home game.

DePaul shot 52 percent, making 36 of 69 field goal attempts, including nine of 25 on three-pointers. Ciara Johnson added 14 points and Caprice Smith 13. DePaul led, 48-17, at the half.

No. 22 Utah 73, No. 23 North Carolina State 62 -- Shona Thorburn had 25 points, eight rebounds and five assists to lead Utah to the win at the Duel in the Desert tournament.

Kim Smith had 22 points and nine rebounds for Utah (7-1). Julie Larsen added 13 points.

Billie McDowell scored 15 points and Khadijah Whittington 11 for the Wolfpack (6-3).
