Rookie Sidney Crosby scored twice 44 seconds apart early in the third period at Pittsburgh, but Mike Knuble and Peter Forsberg scored two late goals to rally Philadelphia past the Penguins, 5-4, on Friday after the Flyers blew a three-goal lead.

Forsberg scored twice and Simon Gagne got his 25th goal -- and fifth in four games against Pittsburgh -- and an assist as the Flyers avoided their second loss of the season to Pittsburgh a night after holding on for a 4-3 win over Ottawa. They led, 4-0, in that game.

The Penguins were down, 3-0, before coming back to lead 4-3 on Crosby’s two goals and an assist, but Marc-Andre Fleury, who settled down after allowing several soft goals early, let in two more 1:10 apart to decide it.

Forsberg beat him from above the right circle with a shot that appeared to hit off Fleury’s shoulder or chest and trickle between his pads at 15:27 to tie it.

Knuble won it at 16:37 with a wrist shot from the edge of the right circle off Mike Richards’ setup.

The Penguins lost their 11th in 12 games and fell to 0-3 under new Coach Michel Therrien. The Flyers won their first game of a franchise-record, 11-game trip.

Washington 4, Montreal 2 -- Rookie Alexander Ovechkin scored his 20th goal of the season and Jeff Halpern had three assists at home for the Capitals.

Ovechkin capitalized on Halpern’s third assist of the third period and gave the Capitals a 4-2 lead with 6:15 left. Ovechkin leads all rookies in goals and scoring with 39 points.

Detroit 3, Chicago 2 -- Pavel Datsyuk scored a power-play goal with a second left in overtime on the road for the Red Wings in a victory over the Blackhawks.

With the game tied, 2-2, White, Gaborik and Marc Chouinard scored for Minnesota. Marek Svatos got his team-leading 19th goal for the Avalanche. Former Wild forward Antti Laaksonen tied it midway through the third period, but Manny Fernandez made 11 of his 20 saves in the period for the win.

McCabe also had an assist for the Maple Leafs, who netted both goals on the power play one night after going 0 for 9 with the man advantage in a 4-1 loss at Boston.

Carolina 4, Florida 3 -- Justin Williams and Rod Brind’Amour scored third-period goals at home to help Carolina shake off a miserable night on the power play.
