A small plane crashed Monday near a private airstrip in San Bernardino County, killing the pilot.

The Cessna 180 crashed into a field shortly after noon while nearing the dirt airstrip, said Gary Mayer, operations officer for the Federal Aviation Administration in Seattle. “The pilot was executing a low approach and lost control,” he said.
