A man who allegedly stole an ambulance and led police on a chase across Orange County was arrested after he lost control of the vehicle in Dana Point, police said Friday.

Robert Wayne LaFleur, 30, of Stockton was being held at the Orange County Jail on suspicion of auto theft, driving without a license and evading arrest. Bail was set at $25,000.

The ambulance was stolen on Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach, police said.

They said LaFleur was seen about 11 p.m. Thursday driving recklessly through Huntington Beach with the ambulance’s siren on but all its lights off.

Police failed to stop the driver who led them on a 15-minute chase south on Pacific Coast Highway through Laguna Beach and into Dana Point. There, the ambulance spun out of control and rolled onto its side. LaFleur was arrested and hospitalized with unknown injuries.
