Bibby, Barnes Lift Kings Past Knicks

Mike Bibby scored 15 of his career-high 40 points in the fourth quarter, and Matt Barnes made the go-ahead free throw and two big defensive plays to give the Sacramento Kings a 116-115 victory over the New York Knicks on Friday night at Sacramento.

The Kings came back from an 11-point deficit in the final 3 1/2 minutes, scoring nine points in the final 48 seconds to win despite the absence of injured starters Chris Webber, Peja Stojakovic and Cuttino Mobley.

Barnes, a former Clipper, scored 16 points, one shy of his career high, and also stole the ball from Penny Hardaway shortly before time expired.

After Bibby made a three-point basket with 37 seconds to play, Barnes stole the Knicks’ inbounds pass and passed to Brad Miller for a layup, tying the score at 115-115.

Miller, who was fouled, missed the free throw with 31 seconds left, but Hardaway missed a three-point attempt. Hardaway then fouled Barnes underneath the basket with 6.8 seconds left, and he made one of two free throws.

Indiana 95, Dallas 94 -- Anthony Johnson made two free throws with 4.6 seconds left at Indianapolis to help the Pacers end a six-game losing streak. The free throws gave Indiana a 95-92 lead.

Johnson then intentionally fouled Dirk Nowitzki to avoid the possibility of a tying three-point basket. Nowitzki made the first free throw, then accidentally banked the second one in after trying to miss in hopes of getting a rebound.

Houston 119, Minnesota 113 -- Tracy McGrady scored 40 points, including a clutch three-point basket in overtime at Minneapolis. Yao Ming had 23 points and 14 rebounds for the Rockets, who took a 112-107 lead with 2:05 left in the extra period on McGrady’s fourth three-pointer of the game.

Toronto 103, Washington 100 -- Rafer Alston scored all 16 of his points in the second half at Toronto to help the Raptors overcome a 22-point deficit, matching the biggest comeback in franchise history. They also overcame a 22-point deficit in a victory over Washington on April 19, 1996.

Philadelphia 103, Atlanta 85 -- Kyle Korver’s four three-point baskets keyed a 16-4 run in the third quarter for the 76ers at Philadelphia. The 76ers played without Coach Jim O’Brien, out because of flu. Associate head coach Lester Connor took O’Brien’s place.

Boston 112, Orlando 100 -- Raef LaFrentz scored seven of his 19 points during a 20-4 fourth-quarter run at Boston to help the Celtics improve to 3-0 against the Magic this season.

Portland 101, Charlotte 89 -- The Trail Blazers won their second in a row since Darius Miles returned from a two-game suspension. Miles, suspended last week after using racial slurs in a tirade against Coach Maurice Cheeks during a film session, scored 10 points in 27 minutes at Portland.

Golden State 90, New Orleans 82 -- Derek Fisher and Mickael Pietrus combined for 10 points during a 15-3 run in the fourth quarter at Oakland, and the Warriors ended a six-game losing streak.
