Homicide Rate Hits a Seven-Year High
From Times Wire Reports
The city’s homicide rate hit a seven-year high in 2004, with 52 deaths, an average of one a week.
“It was a very busy year,” said Fresno Police Sgt. Len Gleim, homicide unit supervisor.
Fresno recorded 36 homicides in 2003. The 2004 total was the highest since 1997’s 60 cases.
Gleim said the increase in 2004 could be traced to a number of multiple homicide cases.
On March 12, nine people, including children, were killed in a single case.
