‘Summer Is Back for More

Share

Dream Of Summer, last seen upsetting Yearly Report in the California Cup Matron on Oct. 16, heads a strong field in today’s $75,000 Kalookan Queen Handicap at Santa Anita.

Owned by breeder James Weigel and trained by Juan Garcia, the 6-year-old Siberian Summer mare has won seven of nine and is unbeaten in two starts in Arcadia.

Also perfect at the Kalookan Queen distance of 6 1/2 furlongs with four victories in as many races, Dream Of Summer will face seven others after Valentine Dancer and Barbara Orr were scratched Tuesday.

Another who may scratch if the track is wet is House Of Fortune. The 4-year-old Free House filly, who has won half of her 12 starts for owner Arnold Zetcher and trainer Ron McAnally, hasn’t run since she finished last in the Spinster, a Grade I, on Oct. 10 at Keeneland.

Others scheduled to run are Cryptos’ Best, Shezsospiritual, Madringa, Tizakitty, Dis Miss and Mazella.

Race of the day: Shake The Dice, who has won four of his last five, heads a field of older sprinters in today’s sixth at Aqueduct. The $45,000 claimer at six furlongs is part of a pick six with a carry-over of $48,740.

One for the road: Fuego Maximo looks like the speed in today’s second at Golden Gate Fields and could go wire-to-wire, despite a hefty jump in class. Roberto Gonzalez will ride the 7-year-old, Argentine-bred gelding, who was claimed by trainer Cris Vienna for owner Allen Mindell out of a win against $5,000 claimers on Dec. 4. He is facing $16,000 claimers today at 1 1/16 miles.

Exotically speaking: A pick four using Prelude To Puddles and Overnightsensation and Princess Sequoia in the fifth, Ata Olympio in the sixth, Dream Of Summer and House Of Fortune in the seventh and Kim’s Grace, Kissthestargoodby, Heighchai and Yesterday’s Rose in the eighth.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 2/22. Money: Previous day/meet total: $8/$126.80. Total money bet: $122.
