Gentleman John

Mary McNAMARA wrote a most interesting article that captured the just plain niceness of John Travolta (“A Flier Not Content to Just Glide,” Dec. 26).

During the past summer months I encountered John night after night coming into the hospital where I work to spend hours at the bedside of his father-in-law. Each night he was gentle, compassionate and totally dedicated to helping him to feel better and to get well. The same was true of Kelly Preston, who spent her days at the bedside.

I shared with all of the other staff a glimpse of a truly big celebrity who never failed to speak at length with all who encountered him in the halls. No matter what position you held he greeted you, chatted, and often posed for photos with that big smile. It was with total honesty I told him that I would always be delighted to tell everyone that John Travolta is even nicer then you imagine he is, and this view was shared by everyone I know who had the privilege of meeting him on those nights.
