Prison Guards Deserve Admiration
Re “Prison Guard Is Stabbed to Death,” Jan. 11: This story was hard to read -- to think this brave man’s life was taken by someone who has never done an honest thing in his miserable life. The many investigations into abuse by corrections officers are a waste of taxpayers’ money. The brave men and women who do this work should be awarded praise for a job that many in society would not even take. You now have a family without a husband and father. Who cares about them? But there are many who are worried about the inmate who killed this officer. My prayers go out to this officer’s family and the rest of the corrections officers in our California prisons.

In regard to the prison guard’s death, I would wonder why prison officials would allow three members of the same gang (the East Coast Crips) to be housed together. Maybe some of the blame should be on the prison policies.
