A federal grand jury in Santa Ana has indicted a Riverside man on five counts of mail fraud for allegedly mailing fake letters from local superior courts demanding payment for nonexistent speeding tickets.

Ronald Sangalang Fajardo, 29, told those he contacted that failure to pay would result in the suspension of their driver’s licenses, the indictment says.

Federal prosecutors allege Fajardo sent at least 50 of the letters, demanding payments ranging from $175 to $495. If convicted, Fajardo faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison.
