22 Alleged Mexican Mafia Members Held
In a crackdown on Mexican Mafia members in San Diego, local and federal authorities Thursday arrested 22 alleged gang members on drug, extortion and other organized crime-related offenses.
Also arrested as part of the investigation was a former prison guard, Jessica Chavez, 38, who is accused of engaging in unspecified illegal activity with gang members at the R. J. Donovan Correctional Facility, authorities said.
The raids by more than 200 federal agents and police officers culminated a two-year investigation by a multi-agency task force led by the FBI and San Diego police, according to the FBI.
