Dallas Ties in Cotton Bowl Finale

Arturo Alvarez had a goal and an assist to help host FC Dallas tie the San Jose Earthquakes, 2-2, in a Major League Soccer game Saturday, its last at the Cotton Bowl.
Alvarez’s assist on Chris Gbandi’s goal in the 57th minute resulted in a 2-1 lead for FC Dallas (10-2-4), which remained atop the Western Conference standings with 35 points. San Jose (6-3-7) is 11 points back in second.
Ricardo Clark tied the score two minutes later on a shot to the right corner.
Dallas will play its next three games on the road before returning to play at the new Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas, on Aug. 6 against the MetroStars.
D.C. United 1, Columbus 0 -- United (6-5-4) took advantage of an own-goal by Chad Marshall and Mario Rodriguez’s missed penalty kick to beat the Crew (4-9-2) at Columbus, Ohio. United’s goal came when Marshall deflected Christian Gomez’s shot into his net in the 64th minute.
