Rogers Ready for Star Turn

Kenny Rogers left the Texas Rangers’ clubhouse Sunday without saying whether he would participate in the All-Star game, but later told a newspaper that he was going to Detroit.

The Dallas Morning News reported Sunday night on its website that Rogers was going and wouldn’t be deterred by boos.

“People are going to do whatever they are going to do,” Rogers told the newspaper. “I’m going because I was voted in by the players, and I earned it.”

Rogers has continued to pitch while the players’ association appeals his 20-game suspension and $50,000 fine for shoving two cameramen.

St. Louis third baseman Scott Rolen pulled out of the All-Star game to rest a problematic right shoulder and was replaced on the roster by Houston’s Morgan Ensberg.... Boston starter Curt Schilling faced four batters in a rehabilitation assignment at triple-A Pawtucket. The Red Sox have not announced whether he will be activated for a series against the New York Yankees that starts Thursday.
