Police Actions Raise Questions About Rights

Share

Re “Minuteman Flap Leads to Home Search,” June 18: The Garden Grove police apparently used a missing flashlight as an excuse to violate Theresa Dang’s 4th Amendment right to protection from unreasonable searches, in order to chill the exercise of her 1st Amendment right to freedom of speech and assembly. In so doing, and in using mounted officers to disperse a legal (if “raucous”) May 25 protest against the anti-immigrant Minutemen, they trampled on the rights of us all.

Their claim to be “applying the law equally” is just about as believable as the excuses we were given for going to war on Iraq.
