Fire Burns 500 Acres; Neighbors Evacuated
A brush fire swept across 500 acres in the western Antelope Valley on Monday, destroying one building and forcing some nearby residents to evacuate.
About 200 firefighters were dispatched to the blaze, reported about 1:30 p.m., said Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Ron Haralson.
A second, smaller fire broke out to the south near the Santa Clarita Valley around 5:30 p.m., Haralson said. It burned about two acres before more than 100 firefighters put it out about 40 minutes later. No homes or other structures were damaged.
