2 Measures on Pensions

Voters in Los Angeles will weigh two city ballot measures Tuesday. Neither is controversial.

The first measure asks voters whether to change the City Charter to allow the new police force at the Port of Los Angeles to join the same pension plan given to new LAPD members.

No general funds from the city would be required if the ballot measure passes, according to an impartial analysis by the city’s chief legislative analyst.

The second measure would allow retired police officers and firefighters to return to active duty by terminating their pensions. If they retire again, their pensions would resume.

The city’s chief legislative analyst said the measure would allow the city to rehire employees with certain specialties that are sometimes needed.
