Escaped Inmate Caught When He Boards a Bus
An inmate who escaped from James A. Musick Branch Jail in Irvine on Monday morning was recaptured later in the day after being spotted on a bus, officials said.
A jogger saw Jose Emilio Lopez, 22, of Santa Ana, scaling the jail’s barbed-wire fence about 8:30 a.m., police said.
Authorities broadcast his description to cab and bus drivers.
Lopez allegedly changed out of his jail uniform, asked a stranger for change and boarded a bus.
The driver called police, and Lopez was arrested without incident near Lake Forest Drive and Overlake Street, police said.
