Bogut Has Sights Set on NBA

Utah sophomore center Andrew Bogut said Monday that he would make himself available for the NBA draft.

“I have no regrets, and full-speed ahead,” the 7-footer from Australia said at a news conference.

Bogut, who has hired an agent, averaged 20.4 points and 12.2 rebounds. He led the Utes to a 29-6 record and into the semifinals of an NCAA tournament regional.

Arizona State 6-8 junior forward Ike Diogu, the Pacific 10 Conference player of the year, made himself available for the NBA draft.

Diogu, who has not hired an agent, led the Pac-10 with a scoring average of 22.6 points and in rebounding at 9.8.

Bruce Pearl, who led Wisconsin Milwaukee on a surprising run in the NCAA tournament, was introduced as Tennessee’s coach.

Pearl, 45, took 12th-seeded Wisconsin Milwaukee to the round of 16 this year for the first time in the program’s 109-year history.

Tennessee failed to make the NCAA tournament in four years under Buzz Peterson, fired March 13 after a 14-17 season.

Cal State Fullerton men’s Coach Bob Burton agreed to a five-year contract extension after leading the Titans to a 21-11 record this season, the program’s best mark since 1983.

The new contract takes the second-year coach through the 2009-2010 season and includes pay raises for the entire staff.

Burton said that Marlon Morton, an assistant at Los Angeles Westchester High, would be hired as an assistant.

Gonzaga assistant Bill Grier interviewed at Loyola Marymount, and Fresno City College Coach Vance Walberg pulled his name from consideration for the Lions’ vacant coaching position.

Grier and Arizona assistant Rodney Tention are among the leading candidates. Fox Sports analyst and former NBA player Jack Haley is expected to interview Wednesday.
