Alumnus, 94, Pledges $16 Million to University

UC Berkeley officials said Wednesday that alumnus Charles T. Travers, a former executive with BHP Utah Minerals International, a mining and exploration corporation, will give the school’s political science department $12 million and its football program $4 million.
Travers, 94, of the Bay Area community of Greenbrae, previously donated $2.6 million to UC Berkeley. His latest gift will help fund undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships and build a student-athlete scholarship endowment, officials said.
