Annika Sorenstam’s path to her sixth consecutive victory -- or missing the cut -- became a little more cluttered Friday when rain washed out the second round of the Michelob Ultra Open here at Kingsmill Resort & Spa.

Heavy rain and high winds buffeted the course and the second round was postponed just after 9 a.m., with 71 players in the field of 143 on the course.

Sorenstam, who opened with a five-over-par 76 Thursday, has a 9 a.m. tee time today, when the second round will be played, starting from scratch. The low 70 scores and ties will make the cut.

The final 36 holes will be played Sunday, weather permitting.

Jim Haley, an LPGA rules official, said finishing the tournament Monday was a possibility.

The last unscheduled Monday finish on the LPGA Tour was the 1999 Titleholders Championship.

Natalie Gulbis, whose one-under round through seven holes was washed away Friday, said she was not happy about that or the chance of a Monday finish.

“This is my fourth year and I have never seen them take away scores,” she said. “Usually you just continue where you finish and then we go about tomorrow.

“Next week is a big event too. You have people that have travel plans and a lot of different things.... That is what is weird. I thought they could finish this and get the holes in [Saturday]. I would rather see them do 54 holes than have to play 36 on Sunday.”

Laura Diaz, who was even par through five holes, had no problem with the round getting scrubbed.

“I think most of us felt like we shouldn’t have played, and obviously, in the end, officials agreed with us,” she said.

The Chick-fil-A Charity Championship is next week’s event in suburban Atlanta and Sorenstam is entered.

Sorenstam never started her second round Friday. When she resumes play today, she will once again be nine shots behind the 18-hole co-leaders, Silvia Cavalleri and Catrin Nilsmark.
