Only Two Challenge ‘Fog

Share

Lost In The Fog, the country’s top 3-year-old sprinter, almost certainly will remain unbeaten in today’s $150,000 Golden Gate Breeders’ Cup at Golden Gate Fields.

A Florida-bred son of Lost Soldier owned by Harry Aleo and trained by Greg Gilchrist, Lost In The Fog will have only two opponents in the six-furlong race, the third on the card.

Never challenged in his five previous starts at Golden Gate, Turf Paradise, Gulfstream Park and Aqueduct, Lost In The Fog is using today’s race, which also features Wind Water and Olympic Miler, as a prep for the Riva Ridge, a seven-furlong race June 11 -- Belmont Stakes day -- at Belmont Park.

In his victories, which include graded stakes victories in the Swale and Bay Shore, Lost In The Fog’s shortest winning margin has been 4 1/2 lengths. His biggest margin was 14 3/4 lengths in his track-record setting performance in the Arizona Juvenile last Dec. 26 at Turf Paradise.

Race of the day: Elusive Diva, last seen winning the Las Cienegas Handicap on the Santa Anita turf course on April 10, will make her Belmont Park debut in today’s $150,000 Genuine Risk Handicap. Jose Santos will ride the 4-year-old Elusive Quality filly for trainer Mark Glatt in the Grade II at six furlongs. The field is completed by Travelator, Forestier, Forest Music, Forty Moves, Sensibly Chic, Bank Audit, Friendly Michelle, trained by Bob Baffert; Lilah, and Smokey Glacken.

One for the road: Relaxed Gesture won big in his first start after a long layoff for trainer Christophe Clement and can come back in today’s seventh at Belmont. Brice Blanc will ride the 4-year-old son of Indian Ridge, who won by nearly seven lengths on April 14 at Keeneland, for Moyglare Stud in the $48,000 allowance at 1 1/4 miles on turf. He’s a single in the pick six and the late pick four.

Exotically speaking: A late pick three using Solid Fuel in the eighth, all in the ninth and Pirate’s Memoir and Sweet Muqtarib in the 10th.

Winners (through Thursday): Previous day/meet total: 1/39. Money: Previous day/meet total: $5/$208.40. Total money bet: $260.
