The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Iraq:

Darrell W. Boatman, 38, of Fayetteville, N.C.; gunnery sergeant, Marine Corps. Boatman died Nov. 4 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany of wounds suffered Nov. 2 when a roadside bomb exploded near Habbaniya, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Timothy D. Brown, 23, of Cedar Springs, Mich.; specialist, Army National Guard. Brown was killed Nov. 4 when a land mine detonated near his Humvee near Habbaniya, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 125th Infantry Regiment, Army National Guard in Saginaw, Mich.

Joel E. Cahill, 34, of Norwood, Mass.; captain, Army. Cahill was killed Nov. 6 when a roadside bomb exploded near his Humvee in Ad Dawr, near Tikrit. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Benning, Ga.

Alwyn C. Cashe, 35, of Oviedo, Fla.; sergeant first class, Army. Cashe died Tuesday at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio of wounds suffered Oct. 17 in Samarra, northwest of Baghdad. He and three other soldiers who died of their injuries were on patrol when a roadside bomb exploded near their Bradley fighting vehicle. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Benning, Ga.

Jason A. Fegler, 24, of Virginia Beach, Va.; staff sergeant, Army. Fegler was killed in combat Nov. 4 in Baghdad. Military officials said his death was under investigation as a potential “friendly fire” incident. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Brian L. Freeman, 27, of Lucedale, Miss.; staff sergeant, Army. Freeman was among four soldiers killed Monday when a car bomb exploded near them in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Ft. Carson, Colo.

James M. Gurbisz, 25, of Eatontown, N.J.; captain, Army. Gurbisz was one of two soldiers killed Nov. 4 when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee during a convoy in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 26th Forward Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.

James F. Hayes, 48, of Barstow; sergeant first class, Army. Hayes was killed Nov. 6 when a roadside bomb exploded near his Humvee while on patrol in Taji, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Darren D. Howe, 21, of Beatrice, Neb.; specialist, Army. Howe died Nov. 3 at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio of wounds suffered Oct. 17 in Samarra, northwest of Baghdad. Robert C. Pope II, 22, of East Islip, N.Y.; specialist, Army. Pope was among four soldiers killed Monday when a car bomb exploded near them in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Mario A. Reyes, 19, of Las Cruces, N.M.; private first class, Army. Reyes was among four soldiers killed Monday when a car bomb exploded near them in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Justin S. Smith, 28, of Lansing, Mich.; first lieutenant, Army. Smith was among four soldiers killed Monday when a car bomb exploded near them in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Ryan J. Sorensen, 26, of Boca Raton, Fla.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Sorensen was killed Nov. 6 by enemy small-arms fire during “Operation Steel Curtain,” a counter-insurgency operation in the Euphrates River valley town of Husaybah. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Jeremy P. Tamburello, 19, of Denver; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Tamburello was killed Tuesday when a roadside bomb exploded near him during combat near Rutbah, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Light Armor Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.

Jeffrey P. Toczylowski, 30, of Upper Moreland, Pa.; captain, Army. Toczylowski was killed Nov. 3 when he fell from a helicopter during combat in Al Anbar province. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group, Panzer in Kaserne, Germany.

Thomas A. Wren, 44, of Lorton, Va.; lieutenant colonel, Army Reserve. Wren was killed Nov. 5 when a civilian vehicle pulled in front of his Humvee, causing it to roll over in Tallil, near the southern town of Nasiriya. He was assigned to the Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq in Tallil.

Dustin A. Yancey, 22, of Goose Creek, S.C.; private first class, Army. Yancey was one of two soldiers killed Nov. 4 when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee during a convoy in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 26th Forward Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.
