NAN FRYER of Laguna Niguel was visiting a friend in Portland, Ore., when she took this shot of the nearby Multnomah Falls, in the Columbia River Gorge. Plummeting 620 feet from its origins on Larch Mountain, Multnomah Falls is the second-highest year-round waterfall in the nation. The bridge provides some scale. It was an overcast afternoon in October when Fryer took the shot, on film, with her Canon EOS Rebel.
