Black Says He’ll Stay With Angels

Angel pitching coach Bud Black will not interview for the Dodgers’ manager job, a decision he reached Wednesday, 24 hours after being contacted by Dodger General Manager Ned Colletti.

After initially declining Colletti’s request that he become a candidate, then asking for another day to consider his immediate future, Black notified Colletti and Angel General Manager Bill Stoneman of his intention to remain with the Angels.

“I’m going to pass,” Black said.

The only known candidate is Jim Fregosi. Colletti says he has two others but has not revealed their identities. He was in San Francisco on Wednesday cleaning out his Giant office, where his voice mail still bears his name.

Black said that upon agreeing to his two-year extension with the Angels, and charting his next year, at least, “I came back to holding true to the personal commitments that I had. I will feel when the timing is right for me to manage.”

He added, “The situation I’m in with the Angels, I think we have a special thing going. The owner, the front office, all of that is top-notch.”
