Pegasus awards prizes in poetry

Two poets and a poetry critic have received Pegasus Awards for literary excellence, with prize money totaling $45,000, the Poetry Foundation announced Friday.

Tony Hoagland, 51, won the Mark Twain Poetry Award, a $25,000 prize for “contribution to humor in American poetry.” Three of his collections have been published, including “Sweet Ruin” and “Donkey Gospel.”

Landis Everson, 79, won the Emily Dickinson First Book Award for unpublished poets past age 50. Everson’s “Everything Preserved: Poems 1955-2005” will be published by the nonprofit Graywolf Press and she will receive a $10,000 prize.

William Logan won the $10,000 Randall Jarrell Award for poetry criticism. His four books include “All the Rage” and “The Undiscovered Country.”

The Poetry Foundation is a nonprofit organization based in Chicago, best known as the publisher of Poetry Magazine.
