Center Mike McCloskey suffered a right shoulder sprain in the first half and did not return against Oregon State on Saturday.

McCloskey, who will have an MRI exam today, was replaced by redshirt freshman Aaron Meyer, who had not played much.

Sophomore Noah Sutherland started at tackle in place of Brian Abraham, who was limited because of an ankle injury and flu-like symptoms.

“Both of those guys have not played much and it was good to see them out there,” offensive coordinator Tom Cable said.

Although he did not return a punt for a score, Maurice Drew again made his presence felt on special teams with a 59-yard return in the first half.

“Our special teams were solid,” UCLA Coach Karl Dorrell said.”We had one chance to put up a big punt return but Maurice got chased down. With the ball in his hands, a lot of things can happen.”

Senior linebacker Justin London said he told Dorrell before the game that he “was good to go” after sitting out much of practice last week because of an ankle injury.

But Dorrell didn’t send London into the game until the third quarter.

Despite going in at a time when he said he was “cold and everything,” London tackled running back Yvenson Bernard for a two-yard loss on the Beavers’ first possession of the second half.

London said he was “just happy to be in there and contribute.”

Freshman John Hale started in London’s place and made five tackles.

London said he hoped to be at full strength for next weekend’s game at Stanford.
