Supervisors Approve New Sheriff’s Helicopter

The Riverside County Board of Supervisors approved the purchase of a $3-million helicopter Tuesday for a new Sheriff’s Department aviation unit in the eastern end of the county.
The patrol unit would be based at a Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport in Thermal, for quick access to patrol, search and rescue and narcotics efforts in the desert.
The new helicopter is the department’s fifth.
