Share

The last two winners of the Morvich Handicap will be in action today when the Grade III is run for the 32nd time at Santa Anita.

King Robyn, the 2003 Morvich winner, is back for another crack at the $100,000 contest at about 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf.

Meanwhile, Leroidesanimaux, who won in 2004, will be favored in the Breeders’ Cup Mile as he seeks his ninth consecutive win for T N T Stud and trainer Bobby Frankel.

Owned by Conejo Racing and trained by Jeff Mullins, King Robyn, a 5-year-old Robyn Dancer gelding, will be making only his second start since May 29, 2004, in the Morvich.

In his return at Fairplex Park on Sept. 25, the Florida-bred was third in the Governor’s Cup, beaten by nearly two lengths by Jungle Prince, who is also in the Morvich. Martin Pedroza will ride King Robyn, who has won half of his 24 lifetime outings.

Besides Jungle Prince, the field includes Royal Place, Courageous King, Mighty Beau, Geronimo, Shadow Of Illinois and Tsigane.

The Morvich is the sixth of seven live races at Santa Anita. The first race will be run at 9:40 a.m. and the other six will go after the Breeders’ Cup concludes.

Race of the day: Alumni Hall, who has won three of four starts on the Keeneland main track, leads a field of six in the $150,000 Fayette, the closing-day feature at the Lexington track. Calvin Borel will ride Alumni Hall, a 6-year-old A.P. Indy horse, for owners Will Farish and James Elkins and trainer Neil Howard in the Grade III at 1 1/8 miles.

One for the road: Gotaghostofachance was a troubled fourth when beaten by only 1 1/2 lengths in the Ancient Title Breeders’ Cup on Oct. 8 and can spring a mild upset with clear sailing in the $250,000 Sport Page Handicap today at Belmont Park. Jon Court will ride the 4-year-old gelding for owners Charles Ming and Ross McLeod and trainer Roger Stein in the Grade III at seven furlongs. The Sport Page is the first race on the program.
