LAAC Not Getting Any Awards Here

Shame on Duke Llewellyn and the Los Angeles Athletic Club.

John Wooden is a sports legend and a living example of how one should live. He has served as a role model and father figure, not only to his immediate family and circle of friends, but also to people who have never even had a chance to meet him or see him in person.

Wooden’s name and his impact on others will be remembered long after Llewellyn and the LAAC are gone.

The Los Angeles Athletic Club and its president, Steve Hathaway, should be “shocked and saddened” by the greedy manner in which they are being disrespectful to Coach Wooden in their exclusive use of his name. Perhaps they need to sit down and review Wooden’s “Pyramid of Success.” They obviously forgot three of the pillars on the bottom rung: friendship, loyalty and cooperation.

Unlike the LAAC, our school community was indeed grateful that Coach Wooden and the Wooden family permitted us to name our school in his honor last year. His support and participation will never be undermined among our stakeholders.
