This party animal enjoys his quiet time

Share

FOR 17 years, Brent Bolthouse has been one of the driving forces behind L.A. nightlife, promoting star-laden club nights and producing parties. More recently, he’s been co-hosting a Monday night radio show on Indie 103.1, “Feel My Heat.”

So, understandably, sometimes he needs a break away from 24-hour party people. His perfect weekend involves spending quiet time with his fiancee, Victoria’s Secret model Emma Heming, and decorating their new John Lautner-designed home off Mulholland Drive.

Home-cooked meals

What I like to do on Friday nights is go to the movies with Emma. We love to go to the ArcLight. We reserve our seats, get caramel corn and watch a great movie. Then, ever since we moved into our new house, Emma’s been cooking a lot. She’s a great cook, and being from New York, she’s discovered Whole Foods and Bristol Farms; those are the places to shop.

Shop, then work

Saturday afternoon we love to go furniture shopping for our new house. I came across Lawson-Fenning, and it’s my new favorite store for furniture. They have such a smart way in which they have put together their showroom, midcentury old and new flowing together perfectly. It’s done so tastefully, and it’s eclectic, but it’s still sexy.

For lunch we like to go to Urth Caffe; they have great soup, great sandwiches. I think Urth has just done a phenomenal job of service and quick, consistent food, which is so hard to find.

Saturday night I usually go to Privilege, on Sunset. Nine times out of 10 I’m working, so I don’t get to do my favorite thing on Saturday: be with Emma. I’ve been doing Privilege five or six months, and before that if I wasn’t working, I would probably stay home and rent movies. Saturday night is, “Do you really want to go out and fight traffic?” Especially for me. Sometimes the last thing I want to do is go to a bar or a club and hang out on my leisure. I still love it, though; I love people.

A day of rest

Sometimes on Sunday we go to Faith Community Church in West Covina. It’s a pretty amazing church. Jim Reeve has a way of teaching that is not about guilt or shame, but about finding the good in everyday life and helping us stay centered in this crazy world.

Otherwise we love to drive to Malibu, go to Malibu Seafood on PCH, where you go up to the counter and order and then you sit on the deck outside.

Sometimes we walk up to Runyon Canyon, but it’s more fun to start from the top of Runyon and then we walk down and back up. And then Sunday night we go to Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica for dinner. That’s our favorite place to eat. I love the polenta and I love the Dover sole.
