Lost In The Fog, the champion sprinter of 2005, will make his first start since coming in seventh in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint -- his first loss -- when he takes on four opponents in the $100,000 Golden Gate Fields Sprint today.

Trained by Greg Gilchrist for owner Harry Aleo, Lost In The Fog, a 4-year-old Lost Soldier colt, won the first 10 starts of his career before the Breeders’ Cup last Oct. 29 at Belmont Park, where he was the 7-10 favorite.

Russell Baze will take his usual place on the Florida bred, who has won both of his previous starts at Golden Gate.

In his return, Lost In The Fog will have to deal with a very sharp Carthage. A 6-year-old Smoke Glacken gelding, he has won three in a row since Dec. 26 for trainer Art Sherman, who owns the gray in partnership with Phil Baneth and Tony Vitone.

The field is completed by Seattle Buddy, who has won his last two at Santa Anita, Elegant Ice and Twentythreejaybird.

Meanwhile, at Aqueduct, Smuggler, the 3-year-old filly champion of last year, will make her first start of 2006 in the $150,000 Bed O’ Roses Breeders’ Cup Handicap today. Edgar Prado will ride the Unbridled filly in the Grade II at seven furlongs for Phipps Stable and trainer Shug McGaughey.

Race of the day: Evening Attire will make his first start at Hawthorne against only five opponents in the $250,000 National Jockey Club Handicap today. Chris Emigh will ride the 8-year-old Black Tie Affair gelding, who has won 12 times and earned over $2.5 million, in the Grade III at 1 1/8 miles. The card at Hawthorne also includes the $250,000 Sixty Sails Handicap, a Grade III for fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles.

One for the road: Stop The Race has speed, always a plus at Keeneland, and arrives sharp, so tab the 4-year-old Lite The Fuse colt to win the 10th today. Shaun Bridgmohan will ride for C and B Stables and trainer Michael Tomlinson in the $15,000 claimer at 6 1/2 furlongs. Stop The Race has three wins and a second in his last four starts at Hawthorne and Oaklawn Park.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Argentina in the fifth, Chobigmoe in the sixth and Siren Lure, We All Love Aleyna, Grafton and Saint Buddy in the seventh.
