From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The founder of Los Angeles Mission College was arrested on suspicion of creating a disturbance after a heated exchange and scuffle with Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies Thursday that he said left him bruised, battered and unable to walk.

Charles Dirks, who is also a political science professor at the north San Fernando Valley school, said he accompanied a student who worked at the sheriff’s station to a meeting with her supervisor there.

The student was subsequently fired.

Sheriff’s officials confirmed that Dirks was arrested but declined to comment further, saying the case was still under investigation.
