With Yao Ming out because of an injured left foot, China never had a chance against the powerful United States.

LeBron James scored 22 points and Carmelo Anthony had 18 to lead the Americans to a 119-73 win over China on Monday in an exhibition at Guangzhou, China.

“We are always going to be ready to play. The guys are bringing a lot of energy off the bench,” said James, who thrilled the capacity crowd in the southern Chinese city with several dunks on the fastbreak. “We are producing on the court and taking care of business. We just had our stuff.”

Monday’s victory was the second consecutive drubbing of an opponent by the United States, coming on top of last week’s 45-point victory against Puerto Rico.

“I was happy in that we played very hard every second and we played unselfishly, and as long as we do those two things, we will continue to improve,” Coach Mike Krzyzewski said.

China held the U.S. lead to five points after the first quarter, but the margin increased to 23 at halftime and 40 after three quarters.

Brad Miller was five for five, including three for three from beyond the three-point line for the Americans, who are preparing for the world championships in Japan starting Aug. 19.

The Washington Wizards said they won’t match the New York Knicks’ offer sheet for restricted free agent Jared Jeffries. The Wizards had seven days to match the Knicks’ five-year, $30-million deal.

Former first-round draft pick Jiri Welsch will leave the Milwaukee Bucks after signing with Malaga, a professional team in Spain, his agent said.

Ducks and Bryzgalov in Contract Stalemate

The Ducks and goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov have not been able to break their contract stalemate.

General Manager Brian Burke says he expects assistant general manager David McNab and Bryzgalov’s agent, Don Meehan, to have another talk today and is hopeful an agreement can be reached before training camp opens next month.

“I don’t think there is a real sticking point, if there is one,” Burke said. “They may have a different view on that.”

The sides appear to be apart more on terms than money. The Ducks are believed to be seeking a two-year deal while Bryzgalov, 26, is believed to want a one-year deal to leave open the option for free agency in 2007. Meehan could not be reached for comment.

Bryzgalov made $456,000 in 2005-06, his first full season.

Burke also says he continues to field trade offers for defenseman Vitaly Vishnevski after reluctantly accepting a one-year, $1.55-million arbitration award. Vishnevski wanted $2 million, the Ducks offered $600,000.

The Ducks also said left wing Jonathan Hedstrom has retired. Hedstrom, who left the team during the playoffs to return to his native Sweden, was signed through this season, but that will not count toward the salary cap.

Also, Eric Weinrich was hired as an assistant coach for the Portland Pirates, the team’s minor league affiliate. Weinrich, 39, retired after 18 years as a defenseman with eight teams.

Ladislav Nagy was awarded a one-year, $3-million deal by an arbitrator and agreed to terms with the Phoenix Coyotes.

Nagy was leading the Coyotes in scoring when he injured his right knee and sat out the last 29 games of last season.

The New York Rangers and forward Marcel Hossa agreed to terms on a one-year deal worth $600,000. Hossa posted career highs with 10 goals, 16 points and 64 games last season.... J.P. Vigier, who sat out half of last season because of injuries, re-signed with the Atlanta Thrashers.
