Sunshine Alpine Is on Track

Share

In what will be his second start for trainer Julio Canani, Sunshine Alpine will return to what looks to be his preferred game. The 3-year-old Gold Case will go short on the main track for the first time since he finished second in the Fred Capossela on Feb. 18 at Aqueduct. In his two other sprints, the Maryland-bred was a winner when in the barn of trainer Gary Contessa.

In his first start for Canani and owner Douglas Kent Racing in California, Sunshine Alpine finished last in his grass debut in the first division of the Oceanside Stakes on July 19.

This afternoon, Sunshine Alpine will break from the outside in a field of six going six furlongs in a $64,000 optional claimer. Norberto Arroyo Jr., who rode Porto Santo to a near miss for Canani in the La Jolla Handicap on Saturday, has the call.

Race of the day: Safsoof, who has won two in a row at Belmont Park and Monmouth Park in Oceanport, N.J., will make his Saratoga debut in the $70,000 Troy today. Garrett Gomez will ride the 4-year-old Gilded Time colt for Godolphin Stable and trainer Saeed bin Suroor in the 5 1/2-furlong race on turf.

One for the road: Nicknak Paddywack had a bad trip three days ago at Ferndale and did well to be third, so let’s hope for a clean journey in the fifth race today at the Humboldt County Fair.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Bull Moose in the fourth; Prizessin, Lazer Park and Jamaican Music in the fifth; and Captain Sacto, On Edge and Wisely in the sixth.

Winners: (previous day/meet total): 1/62. Money: (previous day/meet total): $7.80/$347.20. Total money bet: $394.
