Teen Intruder Strikes School Police Officer With Bat
A campus police officer with the Rowland Unified School District suffered an eye injury Tuesday after being struck across the head with a baseball bat by a teenage boy, authorities said.
Sgt. Bob Skudlarski of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said the attack took place about 5 p.m. at Jellick Elementary School in La Puente.
The school police officer went to the campus in response to an alarm set off during a suspected break-in.
After entering the school, the officer said, he heard glass being broken in the multipurpose room and spotted a group of five teenage boys, Skudlarski said.
The officer confronted the boys and they charged; one struck him once with a baseball bat. Authorities said the teenagers then fled.
The officer was described as a 62-year-old man and resident of Rowland Heights.
He was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange for treatment.
