Fullerton off to best start since ’98

Bobby Brown and Justin Burns each scored a season-high 21 points to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 76-67 victory over visiting Texas San Antonio on Saturday.

Scott Cutley had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Titans (5-1), who are off to their best start since 1998, when they also won five of their first six games.

Kurt Attaway led the Roadrunners (3-5) with 21 points.

With Fullerton holding a 48-46 lead, Brown and Burns each scored four points to lead an 11-2 run that extended the Titans’ advantage to 59-48 with 8:52 left.

Oklahoma State 90, Pepperdine 74 -- Mario Boggan and JamesOn Curry each scored a game-high 24 points, and the Cowboys (9-0) pulled away late from the Waves (1-6) at Stillwater, Okla.

Pepperdine trailed, 35-19, at halftime. The Waves pulled to within 61-56 with 8:39 left, but that was as close as they got.

Lea Marvin scored 14 of his team-high 20 points in the second half for Pepperdine.

Temple 74, Long Beach State 49 -- Dionte Christmas scored 20 points and Dustin Salisbery had 11 to lead the Owls (2-2) over the 49ers (2-4) at Philadelphia.

Sergio Olmos posted career highs of 11 points and 11 rebounds for Temple, which won its second straight. Olmos had 16 points and 18 rebounds all of last season.

Sterling Byrd led Long Beach State with 12 points.

UC Santa Barbara 75, Portland 67 -- Alex Harris scored 24 points and Chris Devine had 20 to lead the Gauchos (5-2) over the Pilots (2-7) at Portland, Ore.

James Powell had 17 points for Santa Barbara (5-2), which made nine of 14 three-point shots. Harris and Powell each had four three-pointers.

WOMEN

USC 76, Colorado 57 -- Shay Murphy scored a career-high 33 points, and the Trojans (3-3) held the Buffaloes (5-3) to 32.2% shooting from the field to win at Boulder, Colo.

USC led 22-5 in the first 11 minutes, making 10 of its first 16 shots to set the tone.
