Blues Girl Too wins Futurity
Blues Girl Too, a 10-1 shot who had been second in two previous Grade I starts, broke alertly from the inside post and went on to win the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity in stakes record time on Friday night.
Owned by Lucky Seven Ranch and trained by Joe Bassett, the 2-year-old Corona Cartel filly ran the 400 yards under jockey Saul Ramirez, Jr. in 19.31 seconds, bettering the stakes record of 19.40 set by Ocean Runaway in 2004 and nearly equaling the track record of 19.30 set by Ocean Runaway last year.
The victory was the third in five years in the race for a member of the Bassett family. John Bassett, Joe Bassett’s father, won with Value The Man, who was also 10-1, in 2005 and with First Place Queen in 2002.
Fdd Dynasty finished second and favored No Secrets Here, who had won the All American Futurity on Sept. 4 at Ruidoso Downs, had to settle for third.
