Man found shot to death while camping
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies Wednesday appealed to the public for information about the fatal shooting of a San Clemente man in his tent in a San Gabriel Mountains wilderness area.
The body of the 61-year-old man, whose name was not released, was found about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday near East Fork and Shoemaker Canyon roads.
Sheriff’s Capt. Ray Peavy said the man camped alone in the vicinity as often as three times a week. He was killed with a shotgun. Deputies also found his red Honda Civic ransacked in a nearby parking lot.
Peavy said that anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious should call sheriff’s homicide investigators at (323) 890-5500.
